Brian Davis Premier GolfA 30-year veteran of the travel industry who started with Premier Golf in 1989 (then called PGA Travel), Brian Davis is an expert at planning flights, accommodations and tee times at U.S. golf destinations. He has assisted hundreds of clients to find the best times to play some of America’s great courses. Below are some helpful tips from Brian about our five most popular places to tee up on American soil:

Bandon Dunes

Insider Tip: “It’s not just about securing a tee time at Bandon Dunes, which is better done earlier than later because of its popularity. The on-site accommodations are in high demand so when you play in their busiest time (June, July and August) you must have more adaptability. The best time to play is April into mid-May and late October to mid-November. The rainiest months seem to be January, February, March, November and December. For flights, you can fly from San Francisco to North Bend or their are seasonal flights from Denver, Colorado from June to early October. Some visitors choose to fly into Eugene, Oregon (2 1/2 hour drive to Bandon Dunes) or Portland (a four hour drive to Bandon Dunes).”

Pinehurst Resort

Insider Tip: “One of the great things about Pinehurst is it has nine golf courses, which affords lots of flexibility. No. 2 course is in high demand, but you can still get on. You may not always be able to get a morning tee time, but generally you can find a tee time at lunch or in the afternoon. One of the best times to play Pinehurst is September to mid-November when the fall weather and changing leaves colors are exhilarating.”

Pebble Peach Resorts

Insider Tip: “A great time to play is April, May and June. The slow season, so to speak, is between December and February. We recommend planning at least 6 to 9 months in advance for peak season travel dates and 4 months in advance for winter months. We book the tee times and accommodations at Pebble Beach together.” (Photo by Joan Dost)

Kohler, Wisconsin

Insider Tip: “Typically we’re seeing lots of golfers play the Kohler Courses and Sand Valley and Erin Hills on the same trip. The best time to play is August and September. Keep in mind, the golf season is much shorter than in southern U.S. destinations so it’s better to plan early for Kohler to get your preferred accommodations and tee times at your desired courses.”

Streamsong Resort

Insider Tip: “The best time for golf and accommodations availability at Streamsong Resort is between April and October before the snowbirds from the Northeast arrive. If you can brave the hot Florida sun from June through August, you’ll have lots of possibilities. April and October are good months because the weather isn’t quite as hot as the summer months. With the addition of the Black Course by Gil Hanse last year, golfers now have another great option in addition to playing the Red and the Blue.”
