1. TPC San Antonio – Oaks Course

Designed by Greg Norman (with help from Texas resident Sergio Garcia) as a sibling course to the Canyons course, the Oaks Course at TPC San Antonio opened in 2010 at the JW Marriott Hill Country Resort & Spa. The Oaks is host of the annual Valero Texas Open on the PGA Tour. 

Give yourself a margin of error on the par-3 16th to stay clear of the bunker sitting smack dab in the middle of the green. The finishing hole, the par-5 18th, is another standout, offering a dramatic conclusion with its risk-reward options traversing the meandering creek.

TPC Oaks Course

2. Omni PGA Frisco Resort – Fields Ranch East

The Fields Ranch East Course, designed by Gil Hanse, features a layout that incorporates the natural contours of the land, aiming to provide a strategic and enjoyable challenge for golfers of all skill levels. 

Hanse is known for creating courses that blend seamlessly with their natural environments, and this course is no exception. Many future golf events will be staged here including the PGA Championship, KPMG Women’s PGA, and the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship. Fields Ranch East is primarily a walking course with caddies. 

The Omni PGA Frisco Resort is also home to the PGA of America.

3. TPC San Antonio – Canyons Course

This course incorporates the natural beauty of the Texas Hill Country, featuring dramatic elevation changes, rolling fairways, and a layout that emphasizes strategic play.

TPC San Antonio Canyons Course

4. Horseshoe Bay – Ram Rock

Rock Ram takes advantage of the rugged, hilly terrain of the Hill Country, with significant elevation changes and dramatic views. The layout incorporates natural features such as rock outcroppings and mature trees, in close proximity to the Horseshoe Bay Resort in Marble Falls, TX.

The course features several memorable holes. For instance, the par-3 12th hole is often highlighted for its challenging design and scenic beauty, requiring an accurate shot over a ravine.

This design encourages thoughtful shot selection and accuracy from its players. Many consider Pine Dunes as the best kept secret in Texas golf.
