Here’s our advice on what to pack and how to make the most out of your Golf Safari.

What is a Golf Safari?

Golf Safari combines a traditional safari experience with rounds of golf at some of the best courses in Africa. This once-in-a-lifetime trip typically includes luxury accommodation, wildlife viewing, and transportation between locations.

Golf Safari is ideal for golfers looking for a blend of sport and adventure, with chances to see some of the most exotic wildlife.

Where are the best destinations for a Golf Safari?

The three best locations for Golf Safari are considered the following:

  • South Africa is one of the top golfing destinations for various reasons. It is home to world-class golf such as Fancourt and Arabella and offers the incredible Big Five safari parks.
  • Another top Golf Safari destination is Kenya due to its stunning coastal golf courses and a safari in its infamous national parks.
  • Mauritius is yet another can’t miss destination for a Golf Safari. It offers tropical golf courses nestled against a backdrop of breathtaking wildlife reserves.

What should I pack for a Golf Safari?

Don’t forget to pack your golf gear: clubs, balls, tees, and golf shoes (considering the local terrain). We also suggest packing lightweight, neutral-colored clothing, comfortable walking shoes, binoculars, and a camera.

The weather may vary but clothing can include golf shirts, t-shirts, shorts, long pants, and a warm sweater or sweatshirt. You can also bring light coats and long-sleeved shirts.

Lastly, sunscreen, hats, and layers are a must depending on the time of year you go!

What is the best time of year to go on a Golf Safari?

For a Golf Safari trip to South Africa, the most ideal time is from May to September (dry season) for wildlife viewing and golf.

When visiting Kenya, it is best to go between June to October (dry season) for both golf and safaris.

In Mauritius, October to April offers the best weather for golf, though wildlife viewing is less prominent.

How many days should I plan for a Golf Safari?

A typical Golf Safari lasts between 7 to 14 days. This extended vacation allows ample time for multiple rounds of golf, wildlife safaris, and relaxation.

Premier Golf can customize itineraries that can be shortened or extended based on preferences.

Are Golf Safaris family-friendly?

Some safari activities may have age restrictions.

Many of Premier Golf’s packages cater to families, offering activities for children and non-golfers. Many lodges offer kids’ clubs, educational wildlife programs, and family-oriented accommodations.

What type of accommodation can I expect?

Premier Golf offers luxury lodges that are often located within or near golf courses and safari parks. Amenities at these resorts may include fine dining, spa services, swimming pools, and guided wildlife tours.

There are several options for a Golf Safari vacation that range from ultra-luxury resorts to more rustic, eco-friendly lodges. The choice is yours!

What skill level is a Golf Safari suitable for?

A Golf Safari is suitable for golfers at all skill levels, with courses ranging from beginner-friendly to championship-level. The trip is excellent for non-golfers as well, as they can enjoy safari activities, spa treatments, and cultural excursions.

Most Golf Safari locations try to appeal to a wide variety of golfers as possible, making this the perfect and enjoyable trip for everyone in the group.

What is usually included in a Golf Safari package?

A Golf Safari package typically includes accommodation, meals, rounds of golf, safari excursions, and local transportation for ground & Internal flights.

Some Premier Golf packages also include caddies, golf carts, and rental equipment. Exclusions may include international flights, gratuities, and optional activities.

Can I rent golf equipment at the courses?

Yes, most golf courses offer high-quality rental equipment, including clubs and shoes.

The availability and cost of rentals vary, so it’s advisable to check with the specific course in advance.

Most veterans recommend bringing your own equipment for comfort and familiarity.

What wildlife can I expect to see during a Golf Safari?

South Africa presents the Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, rhino) in parks like Kruger or Pilanesberg.

In Kenya, you will find abundant wildlife, including elephants, giraffes, zebras, and the Great Migration in the Masai Mara.

Mauritius is home to smaller wildlife reserves, with opportunities to see deer, monkeys, and beautiful exotic birds.

Do I need to be vaccinated or take special precautions?

The National Travel Health Network and Centre and WHO recommend the following vaccinations for South Africa: hepatitis A, hepatitis B, typhoid, cholera, yellow fever, rabies, and tetanus.

It’s also recommended that you visit your healthcare provider four to six weeks before you travel to ensure that you are up to date with the following routine vaccinations:

  • Flu
  • MMR – measles, mumps and rubella (German measles)
  • Polio
  • Hepatitis A & B
  • DPT – diphtheria, pertussis (whooping cough) and tetanus

Make sure to carry necessary medications, insect repellent, and health insurance that covers international travel. Depending on where in Africa you’re going, it is recommended to consult with a travel clinic or your healthcare provider.
