The paradise Caribbean island of Barbados is one of the most beautiful and laid-back settings to enjoy a golf vacation. From the opulent luxury of Sandy Lane to the awe-inspiring views and elegant finishes of Apes Hill, you’re guaranteed to have the golf trip of a lifetime. Play some of the finest golf in the Caribbean, including the exclusive Green Monkey, and the newly renovated 19 holes at Apes Hill. Enjoy sunsets of the azure blue waters and white sandy beaches of the Caribbean shoreline.
While on the island, experience some true Caribbean culture, including sampling some of the finest rum in the world and enjoying a ‘fish fry’ with the locals. Venture to the east coast of the nation island to witness the rugged power of nature as the vast Atlantic Ocean crashes into giant rock formations, and true contrast to the tranquil west. Take in some local live reggae music and enjoy a game of beach cricket in this vibrant, fun-loving nation.
Arrive at Bridgetown International (BGI) and meet your greeter at customs. Your guide will assist you through the automated gates, help you find your checked bags in the arrivals hall, and then escort you to your driver.
On the way to Sandy Lane on the west side of the island, ask your driver to stop at a “rum shack,” a small building dedicated to snacks, “beastly cold” beer, and you guessed it, rum. Check into the resort and enjoy dinner at the L’Acajou.
Get ready to play one of the most exclusive courses in the world, The Green Monkey. Available only to resort guests, the Tom Fazio-designed track features a large green monkey made of grass in a bunker on the signature 16th hole.
Make sure to buy some branded merchandise from the course, it’s also only available to those who have played the course.
Have lunch at the clubhouse overlooking the two courses on the property (get the Green Monkey salad if they have the pomegranate available) and check out to transfer to Apes Hill just a few minutes away.
From your 4-bedroom villa, you will be overlooking the central part of the resort: the newly constructed par-3 course, the 19th hole, and the practice facilities.
Head down in your villa cart to the 20th hole for eggs benedict on the fresh brioche bread with a wonderful cappuccino.
You will head from there to the first tee of the main course. Enjoy the multiple elevation changes and the build-up to the view on the 14th hole, which overlooks the St. Andrew’s Parish and the Atlantic Ocean.
Take a day off from golf and head to the east side of the island. The island is only about 12 miles wide at its longest, but it can take 30 minutes or so by car to make it through the winding roads.
Have a fresh rum punch at a seaside shanty before making your way back to the villa. Enjoy a sunset dinner overlooking the Caribbean at the Noisy Cricket.
Today, you head to Royal Westmoreland for your final round of golf on the island’s most established track. The course sits between Sandy Lane and Apes Hill in terms of elevation, so you will get dramatic views, extreme elevation changes, and signature land formations as you wind your way through the neighborhoods.
After your round, transfer to the Apes Hill Private Beach Club just a few minutes away, and swim in the bright, warm turquoise waters. Rinse off and head over to St. Nicholas’ Abbey, considered the oldest colonial building on the island. If that isn’t impressive enough, try the 12-year-old rum that is distilled, barrelled, and bottled on the property. Warmed from the sun and the rum, head back to Apes Hill and enjoy a private chef’s dinner in the villa.
The sunrise will wake you in time to sip coffee on your balcony as you prepare for your departure. You should have enough time to squeeze in a quick nine on the par 3 course, which circles the water feature just below the clubhouse.
The driver will meet you in the turnabout out front and you can wrap up your trip to this tropical paradise.
