The Royal Course offers probably the most famous golf hole in Portugal. Well positioned late into the round, the first intimidating glimpse of this spectacular par-3 16th can be seen from the 15th fairway, adding to the suspense and anticipation. The daunting tee shot plays over the red sandstone cliffs, with sea breezes and a substantial drop to contend with. Spot the ball collectors waiting on the beach below for errant shots.
The Ocean Course receives its name from a run of seafront holes on the back nine. The par-4 14th plays down to a green that sits adjoining the beach, creating a spectacular approach shot. The par-3 15th plays parallel to the beach and the par-5, 16th plays away from the ocean, with tee shots often aided by the prevailing sea breeze.
Both courses are well-maintained resort-style layouts, with significant elevation changes a defining feature as you meander down to the coastline and back.
