Horseshoe Bay Golf Resort in Texas is a premium golfing destination located near the state’s capital, Austin, in the Texas Hill Country area. Comprising three award-winning golf courses, as well as an exclusive members-only course designed by Jack Nicklaus, Horseshoe Bay provides plenty of opportunities for improving your game.
When you’re off the course, the resort offers a rejuvenating waterfront spa, world-class restaurants, and luxurious rooms designed to deliver a first-class stay.
When it’s time to tee off, choose from one of the three championship courses designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. Slick Rock is home to the “Million Dollar Hole” and a 35-foot waterfall, making it one of the state’s most iconic courses.
Ram Rock is often labeled as the most difficult horseshoe Bay golf course and has hosted the Texas State Open. For a scenic course, Apple Rock overlooks Lake Lyndon B. Johnson and combines dramatic water play with several elevation changes. Play Horseshoe Bay as part of our Texas Hill Country Tour.
Although water is a factor on 12 of the holes, this resort course is regarded as being the most accommodating and playable for those with higher handicaps.
The 361-yard, par-4 14th hole, sometimes known as the “Million Dollar Hole,” is the course’s flagship hole and one of Texas’ most famous due to its 35-yard, rock-walled waterfall.
Shaun Micheel, the 2003 PGA Championship winner, and other PGA Tour pros like Jason Kokrak, Wes Short Jr., J.J. Henry, and others have participated in the course’s silly-season ‘Shootouts.’
Ram Rock, which opened in 1981, has consistently been the most difficult of the three resort courses and has played host to the Texas State Open, numerous USGA qualifying competitions, and other prestigious competitions. It was listed as one of the “Top 15 Courses in the State” by Golfweek.
Ten holes have water in some aspects, including the famous par-3 fourth hole, which is 191 yards long and has an island green. The course had playability improvements and reopened in May 2018.
It still necessitates highly accomplished players to map their course because of the numerous “moats” filled with water and the rocky ravines they must cross. The ceremonial drive was made by 2018 Masters champion Patrick Reed to cap the celebration of the course’s reopening.
Apple Rock, which opened in 1985, was recognised by Golf Digest as the “Best New Resort Course in America” and undoubtedly features some of Texas’ most beautiful golf. At Horseshoe Bay, Robert Trent Jones Sr. used the highest land contours to create the stunning 7th and 10th holes.
After bunkers were rebuilt, tee boxes were leveled, the irrigation system was enhanced, and stone retaining walls were built to surround water hazards to improve aesthetic qualities. Apple Rock was the last of three club courses to reopen in late July.
