Texas Hill Country Tour

Texas Hill Country golf offers a beautiful blend of historic towns, stunning scenery, low and slow BBQ, and of course, the best golf courses in Texas. When planning a Texas golf vacation, there are many things to do in Texas Hill Country.

From Austin to San Antonio, experience the culture and history of the Lone Star State before visiting postcard-perfect downtown San Antonio. You’ll also have the chance to explore the old ‘Wild West’ cowboy towns of Fredericksburg and Bandera when you’re off the course.

Golf vacations in Texas offer something for every golfer, and in Texas Hill Country, world-class golf is always on the cards. At JW Marriott San Antonio, you’ll have the choice of two championship golf courses; the 18-hole Oaks Course which has hosted the PGA Tour Valero Texas Open, and the Canyons Course, home of the PGA San Antonio Championship.

For a luxurious experience, Horseshoe Bay in Austin comprises three award-winning golf courses set amongst rolling countryside with expansive views of Lake Lyndon B. Johnson.

Sample Itinerary

Day 1

  • Arrive at Austin Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) and collect your rental car transportation (ask us about getting private group minibus transfers for a group).

  • Consider a visit to downtown Austin for a look around Rainey Street or perhaps some BBQ at Franklin’s, Cooper’s or Terry Black’s?

  • Continue to Marble Falls and check into the Horseshoe Bay Resort. Recommend dining tonight at the Waterfront Bar and Grill overlooking Lake Lyndon B. Johnson (LBJ).

Day 2

  • Golf at Slick Rock GC by Robert Trent Jones Sr, and ranked in the top 50 Courses in Texas you can play by The Dallas Morning News.

  • In nearby Marble Falls, the Bear King Brewing Company serves great local beers and is a perfect place for casual dining.

Day 3

  • Round of golf today at Apple Rock (Jones Sr) also a top 50 Texas course. Consider some Paddle Boarding or fishing on Lake LBJ after golf.

  • The small Holy Smokes BBQ or Inman’s Ranch House Bar-B-Q in Marble Falls are both local favorites for hometown Texas brisket and sausage.

Day 4

  • Third round of golf today on the Ram Rock GC (top ranked HSB course), or perhaps the affiliated Summit Rock GC (private Nicklaus course) just down the road.

  • The Bayside Spa is a great way to cap off your Horseshoe Bay Resort stay, followed by dinner at The Yacht Club.

Day 5

  • Check out of Horseshoe Bay Resort and drive to Fredericksburg for some antique shopping, a visit to some of the over 50 wineries, and to The National Museum of the Pacific War (Admiral Nimitz’s hometown).

  • Have a hearty German meal before visiting tiny Luckenbach for a cold one and some country music made famous by Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson.

  • Continue about 1 hour to San Antonio and check in at the wonderful JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa. After a busy day, enjoy some casual dining at the resort in Cibolo Moon restaurant.

Day 6

  • Back to golf today and a round on TPC San Antonio’s Pete Dye Design, The Canyons. A classic Texas Hill Country golf experience and host of 5 PGA TOUR Champions events and a Korn Ferry Tour event.

  • This afternoon take a short ride into downtown San Antonio and visit The Alamo, a former Spanish Mission that in 1836 was site of a 13-day standoff and siege during the Texas Revolution.

  • Enjoy a walk on the famed Riverwalk, perhaps a sightseeing boat ride, and choose from one of the many restaurants along the banks.

Day 7

  • Highlight round of golf today on The Oaks course at TPC San Antonio, host of the PGA TOUR’s Valero Texas Open since 2010.

  • The Oaks is a tough course, so this afternoon consider some pampering at the Lantana Spa, or the 1,100-foot Lazy River in the extensive River Bluff Water Experience onsite. No better way to end a great Texas Hill Country experience than dinner in the 18 Oaks Steakhouse in the resort.

Day 8

  • Check out of the JW Marriott and drive 1 hour back to Austin Bergstrom (AUS), or 25 minutes to San Antonio International Airport (SAT), turn in your rental vehicle, and depart.
