Women’s golf has come a long way since Mary Queen of Scots was hailed as the first female golfer. The biggest team event in women’s golf returned to United States soil in 2024, only 1 year after the battle at Finca Cortesin in Spain.
Although this scheduling was a result of Covid restrictions in previous years, it creates an intriguing and unique opportunity for a repeat battle, with the 2023 action still fresh in the minds of golf fans.
The prestigious Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Prince William County, Virginia, played host in 2024. With easy access to the US capital of Washington, D.C., fans were able to enjoy all the sights of the famous city alongside the drama on the course.
The region is also famed for its involvement in the Civil War, with the iconic First Battle of Bull Run (the Battle of First Manassas) taking place here, providing ample cultural and historical experiences for fans to explore.

Situated on the shores of Lake Manassas, the private club creates a picturesque, serene setting, in stark contrast to the drama that will take place during the tournament. Although only one hole plays across the lake itself, a number of fairways run adjacent, with visual elements toying with the mind of the players
Opened in 1991, the course was designed and built by Robert Trent Jones Sr., and despite his career including the design and remodeling of over 450 courses worldwide, he claims this one to be his masterpiece.
Intended as a championship course from the outset, Robert Trent Jones Golf Clubs has pedigree in matchplay tournaments, hosting the first 4 Presidents Cups on US soil, between 1994 and 2005. The course also held a Tiger Woods-hosted PGA Tour event in 2015. Allegedly former president Barak Obama was among its list of private members, during his time in the Whitehouse.

Friday, September 13: Morning foursome matches and afternoon fourball matches.
Saturday, September 14: Morning foursome matches and afternoon fourball matches.

The Solheim Cup was established in 1990 by Karsten Solheim, the founder of Ping, and his family. It was modeled after the Ryder Cup and named in honor of Solheim and his contributions to women’s golf.
Over the years, the Solheim Cup has grown in stature, becoming one of the most anticipated events in women’s golf. It showcases the best female golfers from both sides of the Atlantic, competing not only for personal pride but also for national and continental honor.

Hotel Stay and Solheim Cup arrangements were terrific!
The Don Pepe Hotel was wonderful in so many ways…the breakfast buffet was huge with omelets made to order, fresh fruit, cheeses, etc. Our welcome dinner the 1st night was great. The hotel swimming pool with plenty of lounge chairs was wonderful. The location next to the “boardwalk” with dining nearby was great. I tried several of the restaurants at the hotel and had tasty meals at each one. Buses to the Solheim Cup worked out fine, although they didn’t have enough space to get all the buses scheduled at the same time into the limited parking area. Opening ceremonies was nicely done, but the closing ceremonies were a bit disappointing. Should have had both teams on stage and talks by both captains. It was nice to have tickets for the 1st tee box each day.
The golf courses we played were nice and in good condition, but lots of uphill and downhill climbing even with carts. I never realized Southern Spain was soooo hilly.
Solheim Cup 2023
Great golf course but a lot of up hill and down hill walking. Not once did anyone check photo ID. The shuttle buses were a slight chaos. Great job by Premier getting reserved seats at the first tee!

Great experience. The logistics of the golf carts and pedestrians needed more thought to work together better . And the bus situation at the end was severely lacking. None of these issues had anything to do with Premier Golf though.
