What Makes The Masters so Important to golf?

The Masters is a one-of-a-kind tournament held annually that sees some of the most talented golfers in the world compete for the world-renowned clubhouse trophy.

The players who meet the criteria for this tournament don’t play for money or rank but for the opportunity to win this prestigious tournament and be members of an exclusive club reserved only for golfing legends, and the opportunity to wear the famous Green Jacket.

The Masters (co-founded by Bobby Jones) has produced some of the most iconic moments in golfing history, including Jack Nicklaus’ famous comeback in 1986, Sir Nick Faldo overturning Greg Norman’s 6-shot lead heading into the final round to win in 1996, and possibly one of golf’s most famed shots ever, Tiger Woods’ legendary chip-in on the 16th hole in 2005 to win his fourth Masters title.

The first of four majors holds a special place in every golfer’s heart, and every year is an unmissable spectacle of the best that golf has to offer the world.

Making the most of The Masters

Our golf travel experts provide hints and tips for attending the iconic first major of the year. Ensuring you can maximize your Premier Golf Augusta experience and make the most of your time on the course.

Augusta National Golf Club

Founded and Co-designed by the great Bobby Jones (not to be confused with his friend and fellow legend – Robert Trent Jones Sr.) and Alister MacKenzie in the 1930s. Bobby was primarily in charge of the Augusta Course design, which always hosts The Masters, Trent Jones was also involved in reshaping some of the course’s most recognizable holes.

The most famous holes redesigned by Robert Trent Jones Sr. include the famous par 3 16th hole (reworked in 1947), which plays a dramatic role every year thanks to the undulating greens that heavily punish poorly placed approach shots.

Robert Trent Jones Sr returned in 1950 to rework the Par-4 11th since the hole garnered such positive feedback.

He is also responsible for the “Amen Corner” (the collection of 11th, 12th, and 13th holes) which drives even the best golfers to ask for a little divine intervention.
